Barrhaven Blood Donor Clinic Needs your Help on February 25th
On Wednesday February 25th, the Canadian Blood Services will be hosting a blood donor clinic in the cafeteria of the Walter Baker Center located at 100 Malvern Drive. This clinic will take place between 4:30pm and 8:30pm.
Blood donation has become increasingly important over the years for the following reasons:
- Our country has an aging population
- Our hospitals are performing more aggressive medical treatments and sophisticated surgeries
- The donor base is shrinking
- We have an ever increasing population
Barrhaven represents approximately 10% of the Ottawa population, and we’re a pretty active and healthy community, so there’s no doubt we can make a big difference and more importantly, save lives. I’m sure many of you have visited the Walter Baker Center on many occasions, but imagine how good you’re going to feel when you leave the building knowing you helped someone in their time of need. That’s a pretty special feeling.
So I have an idea. To make this event extra special, why not make a “donate date” with someone you love. Go with your brother, your sister, your spouse, your son, your daughter – or maybe your neighbor or friend. Make your appointment to donate at WWW.BLOOD.CA or by calling 1-888-236-6283. It’s that simple. You might even want to make an evening of it by going out to dinner after your donation.
Donating blood only takes about 1 hour, of which only 10 minutes actually involves the collection of blood (the rest of the visit is all about rest and refreshments!).
