An innovative, made in Barrhaven gift idea that will literally grow on you!
Had a great visit at the Manotick Farmers Market on Saturday morning and enjoyed chatting up the local farmers who were selling the fruits (and vegetables) of their labor. What this market lacks in quantity, it certainly makes up for in quality.
One vendor in particular had a booth that really caught my eye for a number of different reasons. First off, the vendor in question, Sams Sprouts, had great branding. A nice colorful banner and an attractive display. The product being sold was as innovative as it was simple. At first glance, it seemed like the young lad behind the display was simply selling empty jars. But upon closer inspection, I noticed there was a little white pouch in each jar; and that’s where the magic of this post begins.
Let’s start by talking about Sam, the Barrhaven student behind this great homegrown project. I refer to his work as a project, because that’s literally how this amazing idea became a product – it’s a school science project that Sam turned into his very own local business. Sam is a science, marketing and business wiz all wrapped into one. Watch this kid, he’s going places. But let’s get back to the product in question. I could try to describe it myself, but I don’t think I could do it any better than Sam does on his website:
Grow your own Organic Micro-Garden!
No soil. No weeds. No pesticides. No backyard needed. By adding nothing other than water and sunlight to your Sam’s Sprouts Kit, you will create your very own nutrient dense, organic alfalfa sprouts; your own Garden-In-Your-Hand in six days flat.
Fresh tasting with a slight crunch, your organic alfalfa sprouts are chock-full of countless vitamins and live, digestive enzymes. Not only are they good for you, but they taste amazing and look great too. From your Sam’s Sprouts Kit you will grow and enjoy fresh, organic alfalfa sprouts that will make a fantastic addition to your soups, salads, sandwiches, and so much more!
This product is a fun (and affordable) way to teach your children (or grandchildren) about science, organic gardening and nutrition – and all for only $8.
I would encourage everyone to both share this post with friends and family and also visit the Sam’s Sprouts website – let’s help this local company grow!
