Barrhaven has spawned many impressive artists over the years, and today we have a special treat for local country music fans. Meet Nayana, a local singer/songwriter who delivers on just about every metric. Her first single, Pretty Good To Be Here, is a very polished composition that truly showcases her talent. Stay tuned folks, this performer is going places!
Up and Coming Country Star: Nayana
Last October Barrhaven resident Nayana entered a music competition called One Artist Ontario. The prize was a $50,000 record deal and she won! Nayana is now signed with Indie label Young, Wild and Free Records. Her debut single Pretty Good To Be Here was released on October 9th and is available on all streaming platforms.
Nayana started performing around Barrhaven at a very young age. She is a country singer/ songwriter born in 2002. She began playing guitar at the age of 10 and hasn’t put it down since. At 12 years old she received a golden ticket on YTV’s television series The Next Star.
Nayana has known for a very long time that music is her passion. Before Covid-19 hit, she performed around Ottawa regularly. May 1st, 2020 was supposed to be her big single release show and the start of a Canadian wide tour for women in country music. After months of delays, her first song is finally here, however, live shows are still on hold due to Covid restrictions. Nayana works extremely hard every single day and is very dedicated to her craft. The support from the community is a very important aspect of helping her music career flourish. She has big goals set in place for the upcoming year.
Pretty Good To Be Here is a feel-good country tune. Written in her bedroom with her acoustic guitar, it has been transformed into quite the production. The band members you will hear in the song start off with Jason Mowery from Nashville. He is Clint Blacks guitarist and fiddle player and played the Dobro and rhythm guitar. Dan Swinimer, who found and produced Canadian country stars Jojo Mason and Madeline Merlo did the stellar backup vocals. Ottawa’s guitar extraordinaire Mitch Mainville did the lead guitar work and an amazing drummer from the Ottawa region named Chad Studer did the drum tracks. Jason Willkinson who is the owner of Young, Wild & Free records did the acoustics, extra rhythm guitars, piano, and bass.
Please feel free to share this song with your neighbours, parents, daughters, sons, aunts, uncles, and friends. Here is the link to listen to and download Pretty Good To Be Here:
