A special thank you to all of the candidates in tomorrow’s election
Today I want to send a big shout out to all the candidates in tomorrows municipal election.
Putting your name on the municipal ballot is a big commitment. Being a city Councillor isn’t a nine to five job. It’s a position that often requires working long days and weekends, sitting through countless meetings and dealing with a bureaucracy that can often present its own set of challenges. It’s a job that requires energy, perseverance and sometimes a thick skin. When you step up and put your name forward as a candidate, you’re committing yourself to four years of very hard work and endless scrutiny from both the press and your constituents.
Regardless of who wins or loses tomorrow, we need to recognize all of the candidates for their willingness to step forward in hopes of making our community a better place to live. Barrhaven has a great track record of electing pragmatic and fiscally responsible Councillors that stretches back to the former city of Nepean. This might well be because our community always puts forward a rich selection of qualified candidates who are truly committed to serving the public.
I also want to stress the importance of taking a few minutes tomorrow to make your way to your local polling station. Municipal representation matters. A lot. It’s the level of government which in many ways affects us the most. Whether it be waste collection, municipal transit or policing. The choices we make tomorrow will affect how the services we use every day are both managed and delivered for the next four years.
Barrhaven is one of the fastest growing constituencies in Canada. Tomorrow is your opportunity to help shape the future of our great community. Make your voice heard, and make your vote count.
