Healthy Steps Pedorthic Clinic: Two Services Under One Roof
Here in our Barrhaven clinic, we are offering two different services. Our goal is to achieve positive outcomes and provide our clients with the ability to improve their health and quality of life through pedorthic and nutrition services. Our team of certified experts offer everything from nutrition guidance and meal planning to custom orthotics created uniquely for each client.
Nutrition
There is a great deal of conflicting information out there – eat this, don’t eat that – and it changes regularly. Our on-staff registered dietitian and expert Ottawa nutritionist, Alia Khudhair-Gilmer can help alleviate the confusion.
Eating well does not have to be frustrating. We can help support a wide range of nutrition-related goals and conditions, including:
- Weight management
- Heart-healthy eating with a focus on lowering lipid levels
- Diabetes management
- Plant-based diets
- Digestive issues
- PCOS
- Prenatal and postnatal nutrition
- Child and toddler feeding
How does it work? Alia works with EatLove to customize a meal plan for you based on your medical condition, allergies, food preferences, cooking skills, and nutrition goals in Ottawa. EatLove will choose recipes for you from a database of 3,000 options. You can even schedule the date you want to start it and swap out recipes you don’t like.
Alia’s unique approach to nutrition counseling involves implementing simple, yet meaningful changes in your life that can realistically become healthy, everyday habits. She is also a mother to three children and understands the challenges that life throws your way that can make it difficult to eat well and exercise.
Concerned that working with a dietitian/nutritionist might be out of reach? Many workplace health and benefits plans reimburse for dietitian services, and these services are also both tax-deductible and HST exempt.
Pedorthic Services
At Healthy Steps Pedorthic Clinic, we provide gentle and effective methods of treatment in regards to foot and lower limb conditions.
Some of the common conditions we treat include:
- Plantar Fasciitis and other forms of heel pain
- Metatarsalgia (pain at ball of foot)
- Sports Injuries
- Diabetes – Off-Loading
- Osteoarthritis – Foot, Ankle, or Knee
- Rheumatoid Arthritis
- Tendon Disorders
These conditions can be effectively treated or managed with proper fitting footwear, stretching, and when necessary orthotic therapy with custom Ottawa orthotics.
Custom-made foot orthotics are prescribed by your physician when abnormal structures exist and are designed to treat the root of your symptoms. This type of orthotic can only be made from a 3D cast of the foot and is the most effective in providing long-term relief.
