Massive new Barrhaven recreational complex on schedule for a Fall 2014 opening

Minto has always been a big part of the Barrhaven community and proof of their philanthropic endeavors can be found all over the nation’s capital. Construction is now almost complete on the new Minto Recreation Complex in Barrhaven, a state-of-the-art 160,000 square foot facility featuring the following amenities:
• 2 NHL sized ice rinks (1 rink is accessible), 4 accessible change rooms, 4 standard change rooms, 2 alternate needs change rooms and 1 unisex referee change room
• 6 lane, 25 metre lap pool with 3 metre and 1 metre diving boards, a Tarzan Rope and an access ramp
• Leisure Pool with jetted seating, a Lazy River and an access ramp
• Male, female and alternate change rooms for the pools
• Full sized gymnasium with male and female dry fitness change rooms
• Artificial turf sports field designed to meet CFL and FIFA design standards
• Indoor Walking Track
• Accessible weight/cardio training room
• Multipurpose rooms (hall and room rentals will be available this Fall 2014)
• Café and seating areas
• Parkette with climbing structures

It’s no secret that the Walter Baker Centre is being used to its maximum capacity. Just try finding a parking spot there on any weeknight is a challenge. This new recreation complex will go a long way towards meeting the needs of our ever growing community.
Thanks to everyone who had a hand in making this happen.
