A great local Food and Wine road trip for Barrhaven Foodies
Today we have a special treat for Barrhaven foodies who enjoy great food and fabulous wines. A fun local road trip that’s sure to please your taste buds and rekindle your love of ethnic cuisine.
As I’m sure you’re all aware, the new Tanger Outlets Stores will be opening on October 17th in Kanata – but that’s not the only new outlet store we’re excited about.
A well known Ontario winery by the name of Magnotta Wines has just opened an outlet store in Ottawa and it’s well worth the trip down the 417 to sample it’s award winning wares (the store features a sampling bar, therefore it’s a good idea to bring along a designated driver if you plan to indulge).
The store is located at the corner of Belfast Rd and St-Laurent Boulevard, which makes it easily accessible from the Queensway. Please note that there’s lots of LRT construction along the Queensway in the area, so it’s a good idea to check up on any road closures before making your way out. But assuming the roads are free of closures, you’ll find lots to love at the end of this rainbow.
For starters, the wines are actually pretty good. We really like the idea of being able to try before you buy at their sampling bar. The store is much bigger than we expected, and features a wide variety of products and accessories. What impressed us the most was the pricing – no LCBO markups here. Because you’re buying straight from the manufacturer, the savings are passed on to you, the consumer. Most bottles sell for between $7.95 to $13.95 ; you can even buy a 16L box of wine for only $79, perfect for large parties or a weekend away at the cottage.
But great wine is only half the story here. Right next door to the Magnotta Winery Outlet store is none other than the Njaim Mid-East Food Center.
This is by far one of my favorite ethnic food stores in the Ottawa area. Our family loves Lebanese cuisine, and whether you’re seeking to eat in at their cafe or buy ingredients to cook at home, you’re sure to find several mid-eastern staples here that are just bursting with flavor. The store features what is in my opinion the best Tabouli salad and Hummus the city has to offer.
Want to try something different on the BBQ? Why not throw a few Kafta burgers on the grill, or fry up some delicious Mannik with garlic, olive oil and fresh lemons. There are so many culinary delights here, it’s hard to list them all.
The store features a butchery, bakery, deli and eat in cafe. A little something for everyone, and the perfect companion destination for the wine outlet next door. A great little weekend adventure that’s just 20 minutes down the highway.
