Hi! My name is Sam. I’m 29 years old. I grew up in Barrhaven. My first job was working at the Barrhaven Loblaws photo-lab with my (now husband) Jeff. My parents owned a few local restaurants and my dad is a member of the Barrhaven Scottish Rugby. I love my community.

In November 2014 (I was 24), I was diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer. I had chemotherapy, a mastectomy, and radiation. I was declared cancer-free!

In 2016, I noticed a lump by my armpit. I got it checked, only to find out my cancer had returned: this time to my lungs, bones, and brain.

I now have Stage 4 cancer (or, Metastatic) breast cancer. It’s terminal. There is no cure. The prognosis is 2-3 years. I’ve been fortunate to live for 4, but I’m running out of options.

Last year, in 2019, I started a fundraiser – Turning the Page on Cancer. I wanted to raise awareness for mBC (Metastatic Breast Cancer). Pairing with Rethink Breast Cancer (their focus is on young women breast cancer) this year, I asked fellow thriver Vesna Zic-Côté – also living with MBC herself – to partner in helping to plan this fundraising initiative.

Turning the Page on Cancer is an all day read-a-thon on October 25th, 2020!

Adults read for 8 hours and kids for two!

Prizes will be given for

– Most Fundraised

-Most Pages Read

– Best Snack

– Best Book Nook

You can join from ANYWHERE. You don’t have to leave the house! (COVID safe fun!)

What more could you want on a Sunday in October than to get cozy with a good book? 🙂
